A Yard Divided
Our big project for this past weekend was not coop cleaning, it was actually supposed to be fence assembling. We planned on dividing our "L" shaped yard with a simple chain link fence. Unfortunately we didn't anticipate how much it would cost to purchase a few posts and a roll of link, while not terribly expensive, it wasn't in our budget. So we divided our yard in a more frugal (albeit temporary) manner; a log "fence". Since the purpose of our fence is to keep our dog away from the fortified chicken coop for the chicken's peace of mind more than their physical safety this seemed like a good option. We happen to have giant oak trees that were cut into very large logs. They are tremendously heavy, which makes for a very sturdy stack of wood that our fully grown pup cannot tip over. 
Our covered porch has doors that open onto either side of the yard, so we didn't have to worry about a makeshift gate. In a pinch I love using what we already have and I find that the peculiar structure is rather pretty and natural looking. Maybe when we are ready to replace the divider with a "real" fence we can use the same wood for a cordwood style fence? We will see what will come. This is such a good idea, and I feel like the wood fence goes along great with your yard. We also have a dog that loves terrorizing our chickens and so far we have just chained him up whenever he goes outside. As soon as we have some time on our hands we will put up a fence to give our poor little chickens some extra security.
I have experiences similar things in my yard, needing to create a fence to keep our dog out of certain parts of the yard. We finally ended up getting a kennel for our dog, which worked well for what we needed. If there are different animals in different sections of the property, I think sectioning off parts of the yard, or at least one type of animal is always a good idea!
